Effective mentoring requires more than giving good advice. Mentorship also involves helping colleagues and learners clarify goals, assess challenges, explore options, and identify meaningful next steps. In this interactive one-hour workshop, participants will be introduced to the GROW coaching model (Goal, Reality, Options, Will) as a practical framework for strengthening mentoring and coaching conversations. Through facilitated discussion and small-group breakout exercises, participants will apply the GROW model to faculty and learner scenarios, including navigating competing professional responsibilities and supporting a struggling learner. Participants will then use the framework to consider a current or upcoming mentoring, coaching, or teaching conversation from their own professional practice. The session is designed to provide participants with a structured, practical approach they can immediately incorporate into their mentoring and coaching relationships.
